Hyderabad’s railway network is set for a massive upgrade, with South Central Railway (SCR) proposing three major new railway terminals at Nagalapalli, Jukal, and Dabilpur. The expansion aims to ease congestion at existing stations and support passenger and freight traffic for the next five decades.

Nagalapalli Terminal: India’s Third-Largest Railway Hub

The proposed terminal at Nagalapalli will be the biggest of the three and is set to become India’s third-largest railway station after Howrah and Sealdah. The ambitious blueprint includes:

  • 20 platform lines
  • 14 pit lines
  • 24 stabling lines

Located strategically between Lingampalli and Vikarabad along the ORR, Nagalapalli will cater to long-distance routes towards Maharashtra and Karnataka, including destinations like Mumbai, Pune, Hubballi, Bidar, and Belagavi.

A Backbone for the ₹26,000 Crore Regional Ring Rail (RRR)

All three upcoming terminals will play a crucial role in the Regional Ring Rail (RRR) project — a large-scale connectivity initiative that will link Hyderabad with major surrounding districts. Once fully developed, these new terminals are expected to surpass the capacity of current major junctions such as Secunderabad, Hyderabad Deccan, and Kacheguda.

An SCR senior official confirmed the long-term vision behind the project:

“These terminals are being built with future growth in mind. With triple and quadruple rail lines and expanded MMTS suburban services, we aim to handle Hyderabad’s mobility needs for the next 50 years.”

Jukal and Dabilpur Terminals to Strengthen South & North Rail Connectivity

Jukal Terminal (South Hyderabad)

Located near Umdanagar, this facility will include:

18 platforms

12 pit lines

20 stabling lines

Once completed, Jukal will be among the country’s top five largest rail terminals.

Dabilpur Terminal (North Hyderabad)

Spread across 250 acres near Manoharabad, Dabilpur will serve trains bound for Nizamabad, Shirdi, and Nanded.

Meanwhile, the recently developed Charlapalli terminal in the east is already operational and available for further expansion, helping divert pressure from Secunderabad Junction.

Regional Ring Rail Route Coverage

The approved RRR corridor spans 392–420 km, connecting key districts including:

  • Vikarabad
  • Medak
  • Siddipet
  • Kamareddy
  • Yadadri Bhongir
  • Nalgonda
  • Ranga Reddy

Officials say the new railway lines will seamlessly integrate with existing networks, significantly reducing travel load on central Hyderabad stations.
